Nearly 2 years ago I was invited to see "I Have A Dream" performed by this newly formed youth group and it is so inspiring to see how they have developed over this time. This year they chose a show that is new to me; I thought I was going to see the "Star Trek" spoof musical but it was actually based around a funfair at Dazzle Bay, with lots of interesting characters and songs.
Each of the youngsters had their own named role, all performed with enthusiasm, with some lovely characterisations and vocals developing, especially from Poppy Pringle (played by Rowan Perry), Flossie Candour (played by Beth Patton), Sarkky Cutter (played by Mia Peters), Fred Pringle (played by Ben Lynch) and Murgatroyd Megarich (played by Sam Rees).
The costumes, choreography and set were well suited to the show, and the music, led by Lilian Atkinson as MD, showed a variety of styles which the youngsters obviously enjoyed performing.
The show was directed by Ben Evans-Clarke, who, as a teenager, joined KMYT to do lighting and sound for "I Have A Dream". He says that he feels he has made a "huge leap" in his career but it worked out very well and I look forward to seeing his name on further adult and youth productions.
Thank you all for inviting me to see Dazzle, I look forward to seeing your group develop even further in the future.
